What is Microblading?

Microblading is a manual brow tattooing technique that uses a fine blade to create tiny incisions in the skin, depositing pigment along each cut to mimic the appearance of individual brow hairs. When done well, the result looks incredibly natural — almost indistinguishable from real hair growth.

The technique became hugely popular because of how realistic it looks fresh. Each stroke replicates the direction and weight of a natural brow hair, creating depth and dimension that feels organic rather than drawn-on.

The catch? Microblading creates actual cuts in the skin. On oily or combination skin, the body's natural healing response can push pigment out, causing strokes to blur, fade unevenly, or heal patchy. What are Powder Brows?

Powder Brows — also called Ombré Brows or Shading Brows — use a digital machine to deposit tiny dots of pigment into the skin, building up a soft, powdered effect similar to the look of filled-in brows. Because the technique doesn't break the skin the same way microblading does, it heals more consistently across all skin types — particularly on oily and combination skin. The healed result is softer and more makeup-like, but still completely natural-looking on the right client.

What about Combination Brows?

Combination Brows — sometimes called Combo Brows — use both techniques together. Hair strokes are placed through the body of the brow to create texture, while shading fills in and defines the tail and arch. The result sits between the two: more natural than full powder, more polished than pure hair strokes.

Combination Brows work well for clients with normal skin who want both natural texture and defined shape. They're not recommended for oily skin, as the microblading component may still blur over time.

Nano uses a digital machine with an ultra-fine needle to create hair strokes that are more precise, more consistent, and significantly gentler on the skin than a manual blade.

Nano Hyperrealism heals better, lasts longer, and produces more realistic results than traditional microblading — on the right skin type. It's still best suited to normal to dry skin, but the healed outcome is noticeably superior.
