The Technique

What is Stretch Mark Revision?

Stretch mark revision is a paramedical cosmetic tattoo technique that uses skin-tone matched pigment to camouflage the appearance of stretch marks. The process involves implanting pigment that blends with your surrounding skin tone directly into the affected tissue, significantly reducing the contrast between the stretch mark and healthy skin.

Stretch marks — whether from pregnancy, weight fluctuation, growth spurts, or hormonal changes — appear lighter or differently textured than surrounding skin. They cannot be removed, but their visibility can be dramatically reduced through careful colour matching and precise pigment placement.

At Monarch, each revision treatment is custom-blended to match your exact skin tone under different lighting conditions. The result is not perfection — it is a natural reduction in visibility that allows you to feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Ideal Candidates

Who is Stretch Mark Revision Right For?

Stretch mark revision is suitable for a wide range of presentations — here is who tends to see the most significant improvement.

Post-Pregnancy Stretch Marks

One of the most common presentations. Abdominal, hip, and breast stretch marks from pregnancy respond well to revision, particularly once fully mature (white or silver in colour).

Growth-Related Stretch Marks

Stretch marks from rapid growth during adolescence — typically on thighs, hips, and back — are excellent candidates once they have fully matured.

Weight Fluctuation

Stretch marks from significant weight gain or loss, particularly on the abdomen, thighs, and upper arms, can be substantially camouflaged with multiple sessions.

Lighter Skin Tones

Paramedical pigmentation tends to yield the most seamless results on lighter to medium skin tones, where the contrast between stretch mark and skin is most pronounced.

Mature (White/Silver) Stretch Marks

Older, fully healed stretch marks with white or silvery colouring are the ideal candidate — they are stable, predictable, and respond consistently to pigmentation.

Post-Body Contouring

Clients who have undergone body contouring or bariatric procedures often present with significant stretch marks and find revision a meaningful complement to their transformation.

What to Expect from Your Stretch Mark Revision

Stretch mark revision typically requires multiple sessions to achieve the best result. Daniela works gradually and conservatively to build colour naturally.

1

Consultation & Skin Assessment

Daniela assesses the stretch marks — their age, texture, depth, and your surrounding skin tone — to determine the correct pigment blend and approach. A patch test may be recommended for certain skin types.

2

Colour Matching

Custom pigment is mixed to match your skin tone precisely. This is the most critical step — the blend must account for how the pigment heals and settles, not just how it looks immediately after application.

3

Pigment Application

Pigment is worked into the stretch mark tissue using a specialist machine. Sessions are kept to a manageable duration to ensure even coverage and your comfort throughout.

4

Healing & Assessment

The treated area heals over 4–6 weeks. Colour settles and lightens significantly during this period. Daniela reviews the healed result before planning subsequent sessions.

5

Additional Sessions

Most results require 2–4 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Each session builds on the last until the desired camouflage is achieved.

Post-Treatment Care

Stretch Mark Revision Aftercare

The treated area requires careful management between sessions to protect the pigment and support optimal healing.

Keep the area clean and dry

Avoid submerging the treated area in water for 7 days. No swimming, baths, or spa treatments during healing.

Avoid sun exposure

UV exposure on freshly treated skin causes pigment to fade prematurely. Keep the area covered and apply broad-spectrum SPF once fully healed.

Do not exfoliate the area

Avoid scrubs, retinol, AHAs, and chemical exfoliants near the treated area for at least 4 weeks post-session.

Moisturise as directed

Keeping the skin hydrated supports healing. Apply the recommended aftercare balm sparingly — avoid over-application which can draw pigment out.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

Does stretch mark revision completely remove stretch marks?

No — paramedical pigmentation reduces the visibility of stretch marks by camouflaging their colour difference against surrounding skin. The texture of the stretch mark remains, but the stark colour contrast is significantly reduced. Results vary by skin tone, stretch mark age, and individual healing.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients require between 2 and 4 sessions for optimal results, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the size of the area, the depth of the stretch marks, and how your skin retains pigment. Daniela will outline a realistic expectation at your consultation.

Are results permanent?

The pigment is long-lasting but not strictly permanent — it gradually softens over time, similar to other cosmetic tattoo work. Top-up sessions may be needed every few years to maintain the result.

Is it painful?

Topical numbing is applied before treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as tolerable — mild pressure or warmth. Sensitivity varies by body area.

What type of stretch marks respond best?

Mature, white or silver stretch marks that have fully healed respond most predictably. Fresh, red or purple stretch marks are still changing and are not suitable for revision until they have fully matured.
